CORPORATE / ABOUT OUR COMPANY

When, the grandfather, Şükrü Demirayak, opened a small grocery shop in 1924, this would be the beginning of a very long business life for Demirayak Family. The existence of this humble grocery shop, which just tried to meet ends meet all the time, the market continued until 1954, when it underwent revamping as it was renamed “Bizim Bakkal” (Our Grocer's) by Bekir Demirayak. Supplies were obtained from wholesalers in Konya until the late 1950's and the enterprise could take on the identity of a wholesaler grocery shop as a result of long efforts in the 60's.

In the 60's, Bizim Bakkaliye, which was actually a mixture of a wholesaling operation and a retailer at the same time, could soon manage to sell goods to those wholesalers in Afyon, which were once its major suppliers thanks to its relentless and non stop endeavors. A major turning point in those years was the establishment of Demirayak Kollektif Şirketi, a kind of general partnership, in 1968. The new company was the first business venture starting to deliver supplies to its customers in Afyon and its districts by adapting a new and different approach, which was something quite unusual for that time.

1970's witnessed Demirayak Kollektif Şirketi achieve rapid growth and expand its network of dealers. Sales and distribution reached further points with brand names such as Eti, Lever, Unilever, Tariş, Ekiz Yağ, Fiskobirlik, Güneydoğu Birlik, Antalya Yağ Sanayi, Turyag, Vatan Konserve and Mintaş for which dealerships were conducted in that period.

Sales of rice, legumes and bulk fine sugar, which would later become the core of ABC, started in that period and helped the company have a leading edge in the region. Again, in the same years, networks of services were set up in several provinces apart from Afyon, namely Kütahya, Uşak, Isparta and Burdur.

Operations were going beyond these geographical borders, with sales getting under way in İzmir, Ankara and Istanbul involving voluminous transactions.

Same year, founder Bekir Demirayak decided to change the company title to Dempaş AŞ in 1979, thus realizing a transition from a general partnership entity to a joint stock company. During that period, the depots that were originally located outside the city were added to the company assets. Having realized a first of its kind in Turkey, the company put into service a forklift and shelf based system by introducing the concept of a single depot and combining a variety of different depots located outside the city away from its downtown market.

In 1979, stock management became effective and efficient thanks to this new and modern concept of depot and distribution. Dempaş AŞ was one of the first business entities that introduced computer based stock management, billing and current accounts monitoring in the country. During that period, delivery of supplies to the retailers in Afyon and its districts continued under a dedicated team.

With a new investment decision in 1983, the foundations of Depa AŞ was laid down in Antalya and as a separate legal entity, it started commercial operations by getting the distributorship rights from Tariş as the first of several to come. Of these subsidiaries, Depa AŞ and Dempaş AŞ, one ceased operations in 1985 as the other stopped operating in 1990 and in the subsequent period, the company led by Bekir Demirayak enjoyed continued growth in terms of balance sheet, tonnages handled, number of vehicles, distributorships and range of products.

Determined to put its success in the distribution sector to test in the automotive sector in 1987, DŞG began operating a sales and service agent for Renault. Today, it maintains only services part of that business with about 25 employees.

The brand name, ABC, came to existence parallel to a decision to build a packaging and sifting plant for rice and legumes in 1989. The patent for the brand name was obtained at the end of the same year, with trial production getting under way with a daily volume of 5 tons. Thus, legumes bearing the name, ABC Bakliyat, and sugar in cubes, fine powder and wrapped cubes under the name, ABC, again were offered to consumers.

The 90's proved a period when assets were increased, office space, depots and production centers were modernized based on a target of creating a better quality and contemporary working environment and, most important of all, considerable incomes and experience were gained.

Again, Aksiyon Pazarlama Ltd Şti (Aksiyon Marketing Co. Ltd), which is part of Demirayak Group of Companies, assumed responsibility for sales and distribution of products by Eti Bisküvileri, a business associate since the 1960's, in locations, primarily Afyon, between 1995 and 2004. From 2004 onwards, sales operations for Eti have been undertaken by Dempaş AŞ.

As of November 1, 2004, Demirayak Group of Companies gave ABC production independence from Dempaş AŞ, a distribution company, letting the former become a separate business entity, while retaining production by Aksiyon Pazarlama Ltd Şti. The title of Aksiyon Pazarlama Ltd Şti was changed to ABC Gıda Üretim San. Ve Tic. Ltd Şti pursuant to a decision adopted by the assembly of partners with effect from March 1, 2005.

In 1999, Demirayak Pazarlama AŞ, which was formerly Afyon Wholesaling Store providing services since 1979, gained autonomy by becoming a separate entity under the title, Demirayak Pazarlama AŞ; today, it continues operations with a strong team. In 2004, the company adopted a new title, Depa. As required by the new organizational structure in 2003, which was a turning point for Dempaş AŞ, Depa and Dempaş merged; thus thanks to the combination of Antalya and Konya operations under Dempaş, the company had a stronger position compared with the past thanks to its being a single unified body. Inaugurating branches in Eskişehir and Denizli in 2004, Dempaş has thus expanded its distribution interland to 11 provinces.

By making use of its knowledge and experience of so many years in the fields of sale and distribution of products bearing the brand name, ABC, and foodstuffs and other supplies, Demirayak Group of Companies improves its understanding of service and quality day by day in the framework of both technology and human resources. It carries out these services at 4600 points with a total of 75 experienced salespersons.
